I started building and restoring cars in the late seventies for fun and enjoyment. My first build project was a Deltayn Proteus . I saw the car on the front cover of the Kit-Car Magazine; it was different, very, very different and had a V8 - I must have it! After three years of love and dedication the car was completed and on the road.
One birthday party in the early 1990's I heard the rumble of a V8, I was blind folded and led outside. My vision filled with gleaming red my chin hit the floor. Guess what! "A Countach." After an hour's drive, I was convinced this would be my next build project.
At the time four companies in the U.K. were producing the replica. The four narrowed down to two, I visited both companies and settled for Sienna Car Company, Countach. All the magazines said it is the best, who was I to argue? Before I started the build, Frank contacted me. Frank had bought a Prova Design Countach and could not build it or get someone to build it. Here was the chance to practice and acquire the skills to build the car, he did not want a true replica and was very keen not to spend too much money. Frank and I visited Devlyn Cars, an agent for Prova we took about a hundred photos, and the Prova build was on the way.
After the car was completed, I drove the car for about 300 miles to make final setting-up and adjustments to ensure good handling. A VW Golf GTi behind at the traffic lights. When I got into third gear, the Golf was a few hundred yards down the road.
Now I know the joy a mother has, after giving birth.
Ravi the owner of the red Countach heard how well Frank's Prova was performing and wanted the same. Full refurbishment's including a total engine rebuild and get the windows to work. Before the completion of Ravi's car another car was in front of me, "make my Countach look like the 25th Anniversary model," a challenge I could not refused. Not having all the skills, I went out to acquire them.
Six months of hard work the yellow 25th Anniversary model was born, the first in the U.K. and the first with the body panels that looked like the real car. The car was featured in March 2000 Kit-Car magazine while going through the Single Vehicle Approval test.
March 2000 I decided to offer myself as a personal car builder. September 2000 I enrolled on a motor vehicle engineering course at the local collage. July 2001 I passed and received City & Guilds Level I&II certificate with distinction. |
